Pet of the Week: Porter

Porter, a one-year-old pitbull mix, first came to Street Tails when his owner surrendered him because he was unable to use his hind legs.

UPDATE: Porter has been adopted and is now enjoying life at his new family's home!

Porter, a one-year-old pitbull mix, first came to Street Tails when his owner surrendered him because he was unable to use his hind legs.

After countless x-rays, consultations with specialists – orthopedic surgeons and a neurologist – and daily physical therapy, we are happy to report that Porter now has functional use of his back legs. It was determined that he had suffered from an infection when he was a newborn that affected his spinal cord.

The neurologist is confident that Porter will continue to improve and then plateau at some point, but will never be a "normal" dog. He still struggles going up and down stairs and sometimes just needs a simple reminder to "use his legs" for him to pick himself up and walk.

Porter would do best in a home with ample carpeting and would prefer to be the only furry friend so he can share all of his love with his new family. He likes to nuzzle himself under the blanket and stick just his cute little nose out.

Come by today and say hello!
