Pet of the Week: Duke

Duke is an older dog that's young at heart.

Duke, or affectionately known as 'Old Man Duke,' reminds us each day how young at heart he is. Duke spent a month at animal control after his owner passed away before coming to Street Tails.

He is a handsome brindle pit bull type guy who is approximately 8-10 years old and 50lbs. He is an expert snuggler (it's the kind of thing that gets better with age). Duke knows how to appreciate a good belly rub or back scratch and will even smile for you to give his approval.

He is a sensitive guy who likes a quiet household. But will definitely participate in a dance party if you happen to have one with him in the kitchen. While he can get along with laid back lady dogs or kitties that are in his age bracket, and keep to themselves, he would do best as a solo four-legged companion.

He adores short walks and has been known to do a few miles of hiking (with an obligatory afternoon nap to follow). He demands a spot on the sofa or your lap to assure you that you can depend on him to be by your side. A corner of your bed, or a comfy orthopedic bed, is his preferred sleeping arrangement. But beware – like a typical dignified gentleman he does snore.

He is polite with children, but prefers them to only be visitors in his home so he can maintain peace and quiet. He is an ideal easygoing companion. Like all Street Tails dogs, he is micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines, Duke is scheduled to be neutered soon. Besides a little arthritis, he is free of medical concerns and looking forward to spending the rest of his years with a family of his own.

Duke is in foster care, but you can apply to adopt him or learn more about him through streettails.org.
