PSPCA celebrates ‘National Dress Up Your Pet Day’ with Photo Pooch contest

Depending on where you stand, dressing up your pet is either complete internet gold or a totally lonely act bordering on animal abuse. With it's contest for the upcoming National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14, the PSCPA appears to siding with the former.

Started in 2009 by animal behaviorist Colleen Paige, National Dress Up Your Pet Day is described as a "a fun way to celebrate our beloved pets and to support the pet fashion community." Which, to translate, means one thing: costumed animals, and lots of them. It's like if Reddit designed a holiday themselves.

The PSPCA is getting in on the action this year, though, with a contest based around Nancy Glass Productions' Photo Pooch app. Simply download the app, snap a pic of your pooch, style them up virtually, and send it in to photopooch211@gmail.com to be entered into a prize drawing. And, as with all things online, the cutest pet wins.

A portion of the proceeds from in-app purchases will go to benefit the PSPCA, so you can celebrate the holiday, get a chance at some swag (in the form of a free checkup for your pet, naturally), and help out our furry friends all at once. It's a win-win-win.

Except for the animals actually wearing the costumes, that is.
