Sad news for fans of Boogie Butts – the famous dog that ran the Evansville Half-Marathon by complete mistake, has passed away.

Sad news for fans of Boogie Butts – the famous dog that ran the Evansville Half-Marathon by complete mistake -- has passed away.

The eight-year-old chocolate lab gained national media attention when he completed a 13.1 mile half marathon and ended up receiving a medal for running the race, even though he wasn't entered in the competition.

Boogie wound up competing int he race after running away from his home. He joined in with the marathon and completed the race in just two hours and 15 minutes. No one knew who he belonged to but was triumphantly reunited with his owners.

Tuesday, the family posted on Facebook that the beloved lab had died due to a heart attack – so they believe. Boogie truly lived a life worth living.
