Art exhibit honors Philadelphia's Morris Animal Refuge

From 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sept. 27, “Taking Refuge – A Day at Morris, The Nation’s First Animal Shelter,” will feature shelter-centric artwork from Willow Street Pictures artist and owner Darren Modricker.

Philadelphia is home to the nation's first shelter to care for cats and dogs, Morris Animal Refuge, which opened in 1874. On Sept. 27, Works on Paper will host an exhibit by Willow Street Pictures benefiting the shelter.

From 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., "Taking Refuge – A Day at Morris, The Nation's First Animal Shelter," will feature shelter-centric artwork from Willow Street Pictures artist and owner Darren Modricker.

"I know how important [Morris Animal Refuge is] to the community because…I lived half a block away from their location on Iseminger Street," Modricker said.

Art on display will feature animal adoption success stories spawned from the shelter. Artwork will be for sale and some will also be auctioned in a silent auction at the event.

Admission to the event is free and all proceeds from art purchases and auctioned art go to the Morris Animal Refuge's shelter programs.
