Which N.J. town was named the nation's best small city?

New Jersey is home to the nation's best small city.

That's what analysts from WalletHub found in a recent study of 1,268 small cities across the country. The financial site named Princeton as the top-rated in the country in its analysis.

WalletHub says it evaluated the cities based on 22 metrics that included housing costs, schools, median income, poverty rates, attractions, crime and other measures.

Here are the study's top 10 small cities:
1. Princeton, N.J.
2. Littleton, Colo.
3. Dublin, Ohio
4. Brookfield, Wis.
5. Leawood, Kan.
6. Southlake, Texas
7. Westfield, Ind.
8. Northampton, Mass.
9. Ankeny, Iowa
10. Crystal Lake, Ill.

And here are the other highest-ranked small cities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania:
15. Paramus, N.J.
80. Hoboken, N.J.
81. Westfield, N.J.
96. Bethel Park, Pa.
152. Ridgewood, N.J.
200. Fair Lawn, N.J.
306. Sayreville, N.J.
341. Bergenfield, N.J.
389. Lancaster, Pa.
422. Monroeville, Pa.
432. Williamsport, Pa.
433. Easton, Pa.
449. Altoona, Pa.
454. Scranton, Pa.

State College, Pa. (which placed 631st overall), was ranked as the city with the highest housing costs, while Lakewood and Passaic in New Jersey were the second- and third-worst, the report found.

State College was also among the cities with the lowest home-ownership rate and highest percent of residents living in poverty.
