#PhillyFive What We're Reading: Sept. 22, 2014

Five stories we're reading today.

1. Why are New Jersey accents so weird? Michael Riley at the Asbury Park Press takes a look at accents in different parts of the state, and even has a pronunciation guide.

2. If you've had trouble keeping track of the Philadelphia School District cash-crisis saga, you're not the only one. Luckily, Newsworks has compiled an interactive timeline of this year's "false starts, bluffs and political theatre in Philly school funding" to get us all up to speed.

3. NBC reported last week that federal investigators had cleared New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the George Washington Bridge lane-closures scandal -- but the network is now back-tracking on that report. Erik Wemple's media blog at the Washington Post has the play-by-play.

4. Even Theodore Roosevelt's great-great-grandson learned something from Ken Burns' new documentary, The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. Jeff Blumenthal at the Philadelphia Business Journal interviews Kermit Roosevelt III, a University of Pennsylvania law professor, about the documentary and his famous family.

5. On "Last Week Tonight," HBO satire host John Oliver rips apart the Miss America Organization's claim to be "the world's largest provider of scholarships to women," NJ.com recaps.
