#PhillyFive Developing Stories: Dec. 19, 2014

Your early look at five of the day's developing stories.

Here's your look at five stories we're following today:

1. Taj gets a reprieve: Carl Icahn has pledged $20 million to keep Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal casino hotel open past a planned closing on Saturday, though a deal between the billionaire and casino workers fell apart on Thursday.

2. Instagram post: A Philadelphia paramedic's Instagram post of a photo showing two black men pointing guns at a white police officer with the caption "Our real enemy" is causing an uproar.

3. Montco murders: Questions continue to surround the case of Bradley Stone, accused of killing his former wife and five of her relatives in three Montgomery County locations on Monday. A veterans court said the ex-Marine had no record of violence when he was caught driving under the influence, while investigators say they still don't know why Stone still had guns while on probation.

4. Schools spending: The Philadelphia School Reform Commission has approved a "status quo" spending plan that keeps many services at their current levels -- meaning some schools would continue to lack full-time counselors, nurses and extracurricular activities.

5. College ratings: The Obama administration is expected to release a draft framework today for a new system to rate higher education institutions, focusing on access, cost and student outcomes.
