1. Final N.J. Senate debate: Tonight is the final debate before the Oct. 16 special election for Democrat Cory Booker and Republican Steve Lonegan. The two candidates for New Jersey's open U.S. Senate seat will face questions at Rowan University. You can watch the 7 p.m. debate live on philly.com and participate in a live chat.

2. Fed chair: President Obama is set to nominate Federal Reserve vice chair Janet Yellen to succeed Ben Bernanke as the central bank's leader. A formal announcement is slated to take place today at the White House.

3. Project Sloopy: A New Jersey couple is launching a nonprofit called Project Sloopy to distribute unused medical supplies to those who can use them. They got the idea after their 11-month-old daughter died at CHOP earlier this year and they were left with boxes and boxes of expensive supplies they no longer had a need for.

4. Still shutdown: As the partial federal government shutdown drags on, Republican lawmakers from the Philadelphia area say they want to end the impasse, and Democrats are asking for action. The shutdown is proving to be especially difficult for families in which both partners work for the feeral government and are now on furlough.

5. Jon Sandusky arrest: Jon Sandusky, a Cleveland Browns executive and the son of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
