5 stories to follow: March 12

Here's your daily look at five stories we're following:

1. Sentencing for hero cop: A former Philadelphia police officer once called a hero for chasing his assailant after surviving a shotgun blast to his face is scheduled to be sentenced today for promoting prostitution and drug and assault offenses. Richard DeCoatsworth pleaded guilty to the charges last month.

2. Sandy recovery: New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez will lead a Senate subcommittee meeting today about coordination efforts among federal, state and local officials in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. This week, he met with state residents to learn about some of the issues homeowners have faced since the storm.

3. Sandusky's wife on Today: Dottie Sandusky, the wife of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, will appear on the Today show this morning. The interview is her first since her husband was convicted of abusing young boys he met through a charity he founded.

4. Thunderstorms, cold coming: The Philadelphia area is expected to see rain showers and potential thunderstorms today, with a blast of frigid air coming overnight, sending temperatures plunging into the 20s. Strong winds could lead to power outages.

5.. World Wide Web turns 25: It's the 25th birthday for the World Wide Web. The web was born on March 12, 1989, when a CERN fellow wrote a proposal outlining a "universal linked information system," laying out much of what the WWW eventually came to be.
