Here's your daily look at five stories we're following:

1. Hospital shooting: A patient opened fire at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Delaware County on Thursday, killing a caseworker and leaving a doctor wounded. The psychiatrist returned fire with his own weapon and critically injured the patient, identified as Richard Plotts.

2. Flight crash: French officials say one of the black boxes from the Air Algerie crash over northern Mali has been recovered. The crash remains under investigation, though bad weather appears to be the most likely cause.

3. Convention Center protest: Union carpenters are planning a big protest today at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, as the Convention Center Authority Board gathers for its monthly meeting.

4. Christie's travels: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is headed to Chicago today to attend fundraisers. The Republican Governors Association chairman and potential 2016 presidential candidate has been in Colorado this week for fundraising, candidate campaign stops and an Aspen Institute panel.

5. Mandela artwork: Beginning this weekend, fabric artwork by a Philadelphia artist will be on display in an exhibit of quilts paying tribute to late South African President Nelson Mandela.
