5 stories to follow: Jan. 20

Here's your look at five stories we're following today:

1. MLK Day: It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For some of you, that means a day off. For more than 125,000 Philadelphia-area residents, that means today is a day of service. Service projects are taking place throughout the region today. And King's eldest son, Martin Luther King III, is speaking at a Rowan University scholarship breakfast this morning.

2. Woman slain in N. Liberties: Police are investigating a Sunday night killing in Northern Liberties, in which police believe a 26-year-old woman was fatally shot for her purse.

3. Lawncrest killings: A 49-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son were killed in their Lawncrest home over the weekend. Police say neighbors heard screams before Donna and Richard Muller were found shot to death inside, and police are working to develop suspects and a motive.

4. Forecasts: We're keeping our eyes on a couple forecasts today. Another round of polar-like temperatures are expected in the Philadelphia area Tuesday and Wednesday, with some snow likely Tuesday. And David Robinson, New Jersey's state climatologist, has created a website called BigGameWeather.com that tracks the temperature and precipitation data for East Rutherford, where the first cold-weather open-stadium Super Bowl will take place next month.

5. Ban for Greene?: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is proposing that Carl Greene, the former executive director of the Philadelphia Housing Authority, be banned from working with the agency and other federal-government branches for three years.
