5 stories to follow: Jan. 10

Happy Friday. Here's your look at five stories we're following before the weekend:

1. Bridgegate: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie apologized for the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal on Thursday, firing a top aide and dismissing a political advisor linked to the closures. Political analysts largely praised Christie for his handling of the crisis. Bridget Kelly, the deputy chief of staff who was fired, is described by some as pleasant and intelligent, but also vindictive at times. And more disclosures about the incidents are likely in store: Six New Jersey residents have filed a lawsuit over the lane closures and resulting traffic jams, and New Jersey Democrats say they plan to release hundreds of pages of additional documents today.

2. PMA gift: The Philadelphia Museum of Art is slated to announce a big donation today from art collectors Keith and Katherine Sachs, who possess one of the best collections of contemporary art in the United States. The couple plans to donate 97 works from the late-20th and early-21st centuries.

3. Charter founder verdict: Jurors acquitted charter school founder Dorothy June Brown of six charges related to an alleged $6.7 million fraud, but said they were deadlocked on the remaining 54 counts. Prosecutors are planning to retry Brown on those charges.

4. Pinelands vote: Regulators are slated to vote today on whether to build a 22-mile natural gas pipeline through the Pinelands region in New Jersey.

5. Penn State football coach: Penn State's board of trustees has scheduled a special compensation committee meeting on Saturday, and the board is reportedly planning to vote on a contract for a new football coach.
