5 stories to follow: Aug. 5

Welcome back from the weekend. Get the week started with a look at five stories we're following today:

1. N.J. Senate debate: The four Democrats running for New Jersey's open U.S. Senate seat will meet for the first time in a debate tonight. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Rep. Rush Holt, Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver and Rep. Frank Pallone will face off at 7:30 p.m. at Montclair State University. The primary is Aug. 13 and the special general election is Oct. 16 in the race to fill late Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat.

2. Kelly Drive's deadly curves: A crash on the winding Kelly Drive claimed another life last week, the fifth fatal accident in the past two years. Officials say the road has a higher rate of crashes than other streets, due in part to speeding, curves and relative narrowness.

3. Cool weather: The temperature in Philadelphia dropped overnight to its lowest since June 22, and a few more cool days are ahead this week.

4. Embassies closed: The State Department says U.S. embassies in 19 cities in the Muslim world are expected to remain closed all week due to online "chatter" about terror threats.

5. Sports round-up: It's day 15 at Eagles training camp. The team practices at 12:30 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. The Phillies lost their third-straight game to the Atlanta Braves Sunday night. Elsewhere, Major League Baseball is planning to announce penalties today for New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and other players suspected of using steroids.
