5 stories to follow: Aug. 15

Here's your look at five stories to know about before the weekend:

1. Decision day for Philly schools: Philadelphia School District officials are expected to announce today whether classes in the cash-strapped schools will resume on time in September.

2. Police and protests: State troopers are replacing the heavily armed local squads that have responded to protests in Ferguson, Mo., after the police shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, hundreds of people gathered at a rally in LOVE Park on Thursday night to protest the Missouri shooting, Commissioner Ramsey is planning a pilot program for officers to wear body cameras that would capture the cops' interactions with the public and Philadelphia officers say they largely prefer using bike patrols over weapons in dealing with large crowds.

3. Taney plays: The Taney Dragons play their first game of the Little League World Series today. The Center City team faces South Nashville in the tournament's first round. The game will be televised on ESPN and several watch parties in the city are planned. Follow along with Philly.com's live chat.

4. Tina Fey returns to hometown: Tina Fey is returning to Upper Darby on Saturday for a 10th-anniversary screening of her hit movie Mean Girls and post-show discussion. The event is a fundraiser for the township's Performing Arts Center, which needs a new sound system.

5. Folk Festival: The 53rd Philadelphia Folk Festival takes place this weekend, with more than 80 musical acts -- including 30 local ones -- slated to perform during the event, which is expected to draw more than 30,000 people to the Old Pool Farm near Schwenksville.
