Philly's DailyWorth.com raises $850,000

DailyWorth.com, the daily personal-finance e-mail aimed at women, has raised $850,000 in its first round of outside capital provided by venture funds and wealthy individuals.

Robin Hood Ventures, the Philadelphia angel group, led the financing.

Founded by Philadelphia native Amanda Steinberg in 2009, the local company has grown its distribution to 55,000 subscribers.

DailyWorth.com generates content on budgeting, saving, investing and "smart spending" geared specifically toward women and delivered by e-mail Monday through Friday. Its editor-in-chief is MP Dunleavey, a former personal finance columnist for the New York Times.

Steinberg said the capital will be used to expand DailyWorth.com's subscriber base and hire more staff. The virtual company currently has five full-time employees.
