Villanova's Cheek sidelined for UConn game

Villanova will be without sixth man Dominic Cheek for Monday's matinee at Connecticut.

Cheek suffered a sprained left knee in the first half of Saturday's win over Maryland. He was examined by a doctor and will have an MRI Monday, a school spokesman said.

Cheek will not make the trip for the seventh-ranked Wildcats (16-1, 4-0 Big East), who open a tough stretch with No. 8 UConn (14-3, 3-2), followed by a visit to No. 4 and unbeaten Syracuse on Saturday.

Cheek is averaging 7.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 17 games this season. His rebounding numbers are third on the team. He also is averaging 2 assists and shooting 78 percent from the free throw line.

"On the road, it's all against you," Villanova's Corey Fisher said. "I'm sure people are saying, 'Villanova, there's a good team. Let's see if they can get it done on the road.' They're all big games. We just have to look forward to playing basketball."
