Is Villanova ever going to lose another Big 5 game?

The Wildcats  have now won 19 of their last 20 City Series matchups after last night's 103-65 victory over Penn. The Quakers have lost their lost seven meetings to Villanova.

With 7 minutes remaining, the lead was 48. The biggest margin of victory in any Big 5 game is 41, by Villanova over La Salle in 2005. There was, of course, the imfamous 43-pointer by ’Nova over Penn in the 1971 East Regional final, but that doesn’t officially count. The 103 marked the most points Villanova has ever scored against Penn, and tied for third-most the ’Cats ever scored in a Big 5 game.

The Wildcats may be young off the bench, but they are really talented, really deep and only figure to get better in 2010.

The fact that all the 'Cats' Big 5 games are before Christmas might make them vulnerable, but I don't see it at the moment.

REMAINING VILLANOVA BIG 5 GAMES

Nov. 28, LaSalle at Villanova (Pavilion)

Dec. 9, Villanova vs. Saint Joseph's (Palestra)

Dec. 13, Villanova at Temple (Liacouras Center)

What a supprise...the Big East gets better players than the A-10. It's amazing how ESPN promotes the Big East and really helps their school members get fater - as long as things stay as they are the difference between the A-10 & Big East will only get wider. As of now now Temple, St Joes, etc have become mid-majors.

Hawks2004- did you watch the Drexel game????? I went to the Joe but this looks like a 40 point thumping coming on the 9th. Ouch. Where has the recruiting gone. This team looks like a Div III squad.

Temple fan: Seriously? Temple, St Joe's, etc., have always been mid-majors (not to say they aren't talented), but Villanova plays in a premier basketball conference. ESPN has nothing to do with the talent and depth of the Big East. Clearly the power conferences typically get the better recruits. ESPN promotes the Big East because it's one of the best conferences - ESPN itself doesn't create a good conference on hype. The only way the gap between the A10 and Big East widens is if Big East teams keep producing, and A10 keeps underachieving, for whatever reasons.

To claim that Temple, in particular, has always been a mid-major is ridiculous.

villanova has more tourney appearances (nova 30, temple 27), more final 4's (nova 4, temple 2), more championships (nova 1, temple 0), and more tournament wins (nova 48, temple 31) than temple. the tourney is what counts, the regular season don't mean squat. and now nova recruits hoods? because a foreign website which said one of our players was 25 and didn't even get the town right, when his birth certificate, passport, and the NCAA say otherwise? what about st. joe's former recruits.. isn't delonte west facing illegal possession of gun charges and domestic abuse charges while riding around on motorcycles hiding guns in a guitar case? and isn't christmas facing gun charges and a DUI? please. the hypocrisy and double standard of the other jealous big 5 schools is laughable.

Villanova should quit playing the other Big 5 schools . It certainly hurts villanova's RPI rating and Strength of Schedule rating to play such patsies .

Nova is going to continue to make the leap in the upper echelon of basketball powers. Tons of talent on the Main Line. Getting the academic standards lowered for athletes has done wonders for the Basketball and Football success the last 10 years. Big Time recruits now signing on.

This kind of bball is good for the area. Lots of trash talking going on. I think the Big 5 is good for all programs and keeps Philly hoops real. Forget whose program is the better one as all that goes out the window at game time. It is also allowing Philly to breed coaches again.
