Villanova will take part in the 2K Sports Classic next November to open the season, organizers announced.
The Wildcats will host regional round games Nov. 9 to 11 and then have a spot in the championship rounds Nov. 15-16 at Madison Square Garden. Purdue, Alabama and Oregon State also will host regional games and advance to the Garden.
In all, 12 teams will compete. The remaining eight schools will take part in subregional games at campus sites while the four teams play in New York.
Matchups for the championship rounds, as well as the entire bracket for the 2012 2K Sports Classic, will be announced at a later date.
Tickets for the championship round games went on sale Tuesday and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 866-448-7849 or through Ticketmaster.com.
Over the last nine years, 39 teams that participated in the event have gone on to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
Beginning in 2012, Wounded Warrior Project will become the beneficiary of the event. The group seeks to raise awareness and to enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.
