Without a doubt the top hoops coach in Philadelphia is Jay wright of the villanova Wildcats . Who else took a team to the Final Four ? This year was perhaps his best coaching performance yet . Great job Jay !

This is easy. It's Fran Dunfy. Look at the job he has done over the years at Penn with limited resources and now 5 straight NCAA appearances at Temple. But if you consider all of the pro teams for all 4 sports in Philly the Big 5 college coaches would probably get the top 5 spots over the pro coaches in all Philly sports.

It has to be Jerome Allen. He got a bunch of drunken, spoiled rich kids to actually win 7 games this year.

    Hey Wil,
Penn actually won 9 games this year. Give Allen his props. And pot smoking does not necessarily mean drunkeness. Seriously, why this guy still has a job is puzzling.

The other two games were fixes set up by the syndicate. They don't count as a "W" in my book.

Lots of great ones. My favorite hoops coach in the city six is Fran Dunphy. I enjoy watching his teams. PENN has only been interesting in the last 30 years during Dunphy's tenure. I hope JA can have an impact there. Now that Dunphy is at Temple, they have become one of my favorite teams.

IT SURE AIN'T CHOLLY MANUEL!!!! No coach in Philly does less with more!! Of course all the WIP dopes like him because they can comprehend his limited "vocabulary".

Jay Wright hands down. The argument that Dunph does more with less begs the questions. First, of all he's almost always one and done in the NCAAs. Second, and most importantly, recruiting is a critical function of a college coaching. Wright is a better recruiter and has take his teams much further in the NCAAs as well.

Coach Dr. John Giannini of LaSalle without a doubt. Two consecutive seasons with 20 plus wins in a very tough A10 conference, upset wins over Butler and VCU on the road, the most Conference wins with 11 and his own recruited team with 1st Team A10 All Conference winner: Ramon Galloway. Excellent win/loss record at home the past two seasons.

Nobody considers the coach at Philly Textile? I thought this meant THIS year. So many angles to consider which came out in all these comments. Therefore its a toss up (for this year) between Wright, Dunph and the Doctor. Geez, we always HAVE to have a winner, don't we!

dunph would have to win more than one NCAA game to be considered the best. Wouldn't hurt to improve his recruiting either. I think it is Wright but everyone s entitled to their opinion. All Philly teams are worthy.
