Sources: Kennedy considers staying at 'Nova

POSTED: Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 4:38 PM

There’s a chance that Markus Kennedy might not transfer from the Villanova basketball team after all.

The 6-9 forward announced his intentions to leave the program 2 weeks ago.

Sources have confirmed that Kennedy, who averaged 3.0 points and 4.4 rebounds as a freshman last season, has expressed an interest in staying. Those sources also said that he has spoken to coach Jay Wright, who could not be reached for comment.

Sources close to the situation have said they think Wright might consider taking Kennedy back, but that’s as far as they’ll speculate. There doesn’t seem to be any consensus on how long the process could take. But it doesn’t appear there would be any impediments to such a move from an administrative or compliance standpoint.

As far as big men go, the Wildcats still have seniors Mouphtaou Yarou, their third-leading scorer and top rebounder, and Maurice Sutton, who was starting at the end of last season but is probably more effective coming off the bench in shorter stints. They also will be adding incoming freshman forward Daniel Ochefu, who is expected to help immediately.
