Owls, 'Cats in preseason top 25

POSTED: Friday, September 24, 2010, 1:20 PM

Temple and Villanova are ranked in the top 25 by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook. Villanova is ranked sixth and Temple is ranked 24th. It is the first preseason ranking for Temple since the 2001-02 season. The Owls are the three-time defending Atlantic 10 Conference champions. The top five: 1) Duke; 2) Michigan State; 3) Ohio State; 4) Pittsburgh; 5) Purdue.

With what they have coming back, #24 is a bit low for the Owls.

Because Villanova blocked Temple from the big east conference years ago, temple is permanently doomed in terms of recruits and tv with the big east always being prmoinently displayed on espn while the Atlantic is not. Also, would help if Temple won a couple of games in the tourney in March

Don't be surprised when Temple beats Villanova again.

Or when Villanova goes 4-0 in the Big Five this year.

Lofty preseason ranking for Nova. Looks like another opportunity for Jay Wright to underachieve with a LOADED squad.

Another opportunity for Jay Wright to underachieve? Since 2005, Jay's led 'Nova to 4 Sweet 16's, 2 Elite Eight's, and 1 Final Four. Yeah, it kills me how much those Wildcats are underachieving.

When you're pre-season #6, anything other than a final 4 is technically underachieving, which is a ridiculous statement. Jay Wright will have his squad in fine form this year and should realistically be in contention for the BE title as well as a top 3 seed in March. Temple should have a good year and make the tourney, maybe even pull off a huge upset in the Pavilion, but make no mistake that Temple wishes they "underachieve" like Nova. Until Temple starts making deep runs in March, they will continue to be the little brother in Philly bball.

And just to clarify for Temple fans, making deep runs in March does not mean simply getting to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, although I wish their team the best of luck in accomplishing this feat.

You mean like 5 elite 8's? While Nova was enjoying its post Cocaine infused final 4 success under Rollie and floundering under Lappas the Owls had plenty of experience with deep runs. How quickly you main line whimps forget.

5 is good. 12 is better.

I wonder which Nova player will be suspended or will transfer because of drug use this year?
