'Nova releases 2011-12 schedule

Villanova’s basketball team, which has no seniors back from a team that finished 21-12 and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, will open its season on Nov. 11 at home against Monmouth.

The Big East schedule was released last week. The Wildcats start the conference at West Virginia on Dec. 28.

They have 15 games against teams that were in the NCAA field last season. And they’ll be on national television a minimum of 18 times, beginning with a Thanksgiving Day game against UC Riverside at the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif. They’ll get either Boston College or St. Louis in the second round.

They’ll play Missouri in the first part of the Jimmy V Classic in New York on Dec. 6.

Defending national champion Connecticut will be at the Wells Fargo Center on Feb. 20 for ESPN’s “Big Monday.” The other games being taken to South Philly are Boston University on Dec. 13, Syracuse on Jan. 11, Marquette on Jan. 28 and Notre Dame on Feb. 25. There’s also an exhibition against New York Tech there on Nov. 8.

In the Big 5, they host LaSalle on Nov. 15 and Penn on Dec. 3. They’ll go to Temple on Dec. 10 and be at Saint Joseph's a week later.
