Hawks back in action

Saint Joseph's played five games in the first 11 days of December. They did not win any of them.

The Hawks have now gone 10 days without a game. They play at Boston University tonight in one of their three games before the end of the calendar year.

St. Joe's will be without senior guard Charoy Bentley tonight. He had an emergency appendectomy on Dec. 15. He will be out until sometime next week, at the earliest. The Hawks will suit up 10 scholarship players tonight. Eight will be freshmen or sophomores.

If you want to know how much this has changed in a few years, consider these numbers. In 2006-07, an NCAA Tournament season, the Hawks were fourth nationally in points per possession. The next season, with super efficient senior Ahmad Nivins, they were fifth. Last season, they were 159th. This year, they are 257th.

The recent schedule, which included four tough road games and a home game with tough Minnesota, certainly has contributed to the ugly PPP number.

When and if this team begins to get better, the PPP number will show it. Until then, patience is the word.
