Dragons' Ruffin honored by CAA

Drexel freshman Dartaye Ruffin was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the second time he earned the award.

Ruffin, a 6-8 forward, scored a career-high 14 points in Drexel's loss at Rhode Island. He was 5-for-7 from the floor and was 4-for-5 from the line. He also had seven rebounds. Against Binghamton, he had 10 points and six rebounds.

Through four games, Ruffin leads the CAA in field-goal percentage at .739. He is third on the team in scoring with 11.3 points per game and third on the club with 6.8 rebounds.

Saint Joseph's freshman point guard Langston Galloway was selected Big 5 Player of the Week award after leading the Hawks to two victories last week.

Galloway averaged 17.5 points as the Hawks defeated Rutgers and Fairfield. He scored a career-high 20 points on 7-for-8 shooting as the Hawks won the Philly Hoop Group Classic title over Rutgers. Galloway scored 15 points against Fairfield.

La Salle senior guard Ashley Gale was named the Big 5 women's Player of the Week award. She averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks for the Explorers in a 1-1 week.

On the Big 5 men's honor roll are:

* Penn junior guard Zack Rosen, who scored 16 points, had eight rebounds and six assists in the Quakers' win over Lafayette. He also scored 11 points in a loss at Pitt.

* La Salle sophomore center Aaris Murray was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament team. He scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over Providence. Murray followed that up with a 9 point, 11-rebound performance against Missouri.

* Villanova sophomore forward Mouphtaou Yarou scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in an 82-70 win over UCLA and then had 15 points and five rebounds in a 78-68 loss to No. 24 Tennessee last week.

On the Big 5 women's honor roll is Temple junior guard Kristin McCarthy, who scored a season-high 22 points in the Owls' 71-61 loss at UCLA.
