ESPN: Former 'Nova forward Sheridan comes out

Former Villanova basketball player Will Sheridan, in a story in ESPN.com, said he is gay and that most of his Wildcats teammates knew about it.

The story reports that Sheridan first told guard Mike Nardi when they were freshmen, and told his other teammates over the years as he trusted his teammates and felt more comfortable about his sexuality.

ESPN.com reports that Villanova coach Jay Wright did not know Sheridan was gay until after he graduated. "After I found out, I was like, 'Did you know?' And all the guys, they were like, 'Yeah, coach, we knew,'" Wright said. "They just didn't care and I guess I was just oblivious."

Sheridan, a 6-8, 240-pound forward from Bear, Del., played for Villanova from 2003 to '07, averaging 25 minutes a game, 5.1 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Sheridan, 26, now is writing and recording music and has a video ("Welcome to the Jungle") that is a big hit on YouTube.
