Josh Brown, a 6-2 guard from St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, has recommitted to Temple.
In June, Brown, who’s considered one of the better prospects in his country at the position, had reopened his recruitment process. But Monday afternoon he held a news conference to announce that he will indeed become an Owl. He chose North Broad Street over Rhode Island, Providence and Penn State. Rhode Island has a new coach, Dan Hurley, whose father Bob Sr. is Brown’s current coach.
Brown becomes the second member of Temple’s 2013 class, joining Camden Catholic guard Kyle Green.
Villanova’s basketball program has received its first verbal commitment for the Class of 2013.
Kris Jenkins, a 6-5, 250-pound power forward from Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., broke the news Sunday afternoon on a radio show down there.
He didn’t play much in this summer’s AAU circuit after suffering a broken pinky finger, after averaging almost 20 points and 18 rebounds last season. He’s rated the 63rd-best player in the country by Rivals.com and the 18th best at his position by Scout.com.
La Salle’s men’s basketball team will open its season against Delaware on Nov. 10 at Tom Gola Arena.
La Salle’s first-ever basketball opponent was against Delaware on Dec. 12, 1931.
The Explorers, coming off a 21-win season and an NIT appearance, also will begin a series with Penn State. The Nittany Lions will play La Salle at the Palestra on Dec. 5.
