Will Smith has pledged a generous donation to the fund set up for the family of Police Officer Isabel Nazario, who was killed last month when a teenager rammed a stolen SUV into the patrol car in which Nazario was riding.

Smith taped a brief video tribute to Nazario that was aired at a recent fundraiser memorial at the National Guard Armory (Southampton Road & Roosevelt Blvd.).  The Overbrook-native superstar grew up with Sgt. Mike Young, who worked with Nazario on the Narcotics Strike Force. Young, who formerly toured with Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, spoke with Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment partner, James Lassister, and Smith agreed to match the dollar figure raised at the benefit for Nazario, who is survived by family including 15-year-old daughter, Jazmin.

The event raised $62,000, which Smith is poised to match. Donations can be made to the Isabel Nazario Family Memorial Fund, at the Police and Fire Federal Credit Union 900 Arch Street, Phila., PA 19107.

Wow, people will find negative in anything. This is a wonderful gesture from someone who was raised in Philly and has a tie to the officer through a friend. I applaud Mr. Smith. Have any of you donated to any of the slained officers' funds???

Well at least he is supporting one of the officers instead of that moron Mumia.

He donated resources to help the police. That sounds like a good deal to me. Complainers here are invited to do the same!!!

Look he was a friend of one of the cops. I have to say he is one of the best kids to come out of the hood and I mean that with no sarcasm. He has the right to help out someone in his circle of friends. I agree it would have been nice if he could have spread it around but he really didn't do anything wrong here.

It’s heartbreaking seeing all the negative comments for such a positive act that was done out of sincere concern. Just imagine yourself working w/someone closely then tragically taken and leaving behind a teenage daughter. I don’t recall seeing as much coverage on Officer Nazario’s tragic passing or her memorial service. Sgt. Young used his resources for a very good cause. I commend Sgt. Young, Will Smith and James Lassiter for stepping up showing Officer Nazario’s daughter, Jazmin, the love I am sure she’s missing from her mother.

How can anyone find negativity, in one human being helping another?

Thank you Jacqueline Klompus...well put. Sick of always hearing people complain about what others are doing or not doing right. I guarantee you that none of these losers have ever donation money or their time to a worthy cause. Just so you know I donate to the United Way, MANNA, and I read to first graders every Wednesday at the Marriot as part of a program through their school. What are you all doing????

MSTEE: Coming to the Marriot on Wednesday morning to heckle you why you read. It's a full day.

Each of the fallen cops received a federal law enforcement benefit of 250K tax free. Plus their houses if mortgaged and with title insurance automatically paid off, thus adding significant value to their families. Will Smith donated for Officer Nazario due to his friendship with Sgt Young. A benefit for Nazario that raised 62K will get 62K more to make it 124K. Assume Nazario's home is worth 100K to 150K with 150K a conservative estimate. Add all that and it is around 524K for Nazario's 15 year old daughter only three years away from college where scholarships will wait for her. I hope the money is kept in trust and invested wisely so that she will have income to take care of herself when she becomes an adult. Note: I did not count the debts of Officer Nazario's estate. I wish he could have brought his Hollywood friends to donate money to the other four fallen Philly officers if the celebs were looking for a tax deduction as this would have helped immensely the other families with children. We need to support all cops who give their lives to society, not the chosen few.

I did what now? I think Will Smith is a great guy - there's just residual anger about the Phils game. That's all. Jackie, I appreciate you complimenting my teste(s).

rumormill: To a degree, I believe we've run the gamut of "Dan" jokes. Historians will come to call this time "The Time of Great Peace". Not to be confused with what the ladies refer to as "Citizen's Great Piece". Although both are legendary.

As long as he doesn't do another Muhammed Ali movie, then I am all for it. All the officers are heroes. Why doesn't he help all of the fallen ? I mean,he has the money. Can't take it with you, Will.

Incredible ... instead of complaining about Will didn't do - ask "What are the pro athletes in Philly doing for the officers' families?"

Wow, you people are the reason why Philthy will never rise above it's meager status. I guess if i had never experienced any place outside of the city (as I am sure most of you all have not, which appears to be an epidemic around here) I would be as miserable as you people are. Get a life!
