Vince Fumo to marry before sentencing?

Just days before he is to be sentenced on a federal corruption conviction, former state Sen. Vince Fumo and girlfriend Carolyn Zinni have gotten engaged, sources tell us.

Fumo, 66, proposed to Zinni, 51, who was by his side throughout his trial, over the weekend down the shore and we're told they plan to wed before Fumo's sentencing on July 14. Legal and political insiders suggest that in addition to simply being a romantic gesture, Fumo may be trying to ensure that Zinni, who runs Zinni's, a dress shop, in Springfield, Delaware County, will be the one to handle his business affairs while he is in prison.

Fumo has not returned our requests for comment.

UPDATE: Zinni has also not returned a request for comment, and we are now hearing the pair, each of whom have been married twice before, might not wed before Fumo's sentencing. You'll note a new question mark in the headline.

I wish the court would move up his sentencing date so he cannot be married. The feds need to seize ALL his assets and investigate all his wranglings. I'm sure it goes up to Easy Ed Rendell and to Washington DC. This is what sickens me. A wealthy man cheats, steals, and lies people out of money and assets yet they are never poor. Seize every stinking thing he owns and then see how eager his little lady will be to marry him.

It also could be designed to ensure that she can receive a portion of pension when he dies.

He can't shield his assets that way, maybe his pension. She is a gold digger always was and always will be. She will be in the house(s) until they are taken. His honeymoon will be in prison with Bubba.

Actually, I do not think that they let "Bubba" into Allenwood. It is for the white collar cons and their conjugal visitations. But the move to marry does smell of hiding wealth. Yes, it should all be seized before he gets the chance to hide anything.

Carolyn, I wouldn't do that. You can have a better future with someone else and enjoy life instead of being alone while he is in prison. I don't see him ever getting out and you would be all by yourself and later you will regret marrying him and then it will be too late. There's a lot of guys out there that can fall in love with you and have a happy ever after. Think about it.

Who is this Dan Gross guy anyway? He probably sits behind his laptop in a Starbucks Cafe, CLAIMING to report the news in the hopes that enough hits to his column will actually keep him employed. Who are you quoting and who's your source? Fumo and Zinni are only engaged, and have zero plans to get married before his sentencing. Their engagement symbolizes her commitment to him no matter how many years he goes to prison. Check your facts and start actually reporting the news...
