Vince DeMentri's vacation may last longer than he'd hoped

NBC 10's Vince DeMentri picked a good week for vacation. The 4 p.m. anchor was previously scheduled off this week; however, in his absence, the station is figuring out how to handle some type of off-air situation that led to DeMentri's being kept off his scheduled shifts last Thursday and Friday following a meeting with news director Chris Blackman. "He is on vacation," said a station spokeswoman yesterday, declining to comment on what happened last week or on when DeMentri may return to the air. The anchor, who is known to have a hot temper, was suspended for a week in 2006 after nearly coming to blows with meteorologist Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz.

UPDATE: For the past two Thursdays news trucks have been chasing rumors that Larry Mendte would be making a court appearance and now there are news trucks outside the Lower Merion Police Station in Ardmore where DeMentri is rumored to be turning himself in today in relation to an alleged incident in the parking lot of NBC 10's Bala Cynwyd headquarters. The incident is believed to have involved DeMentri possibly vandalizing reporter/anchor Lori Delgado's car. The anchor had been planning a Jamaican getaway, but sources tell us he did not leave the country and is still in the area. DeMentri and Delgado, who is married, have in the past enjoyed a particularly close friendship. In May 2007 we reported that DeMentri was in the process of a divorce from QVC host wife Pat James DeMentri.  Delgado could not immediately be reached for comment and DeMentri has not returned voicemails left on his cell phone. Lower Merion Police have not returned a request for information over a police report which sources tell us was recently filed over the alleged incident. A station spokeswoman this morning declined to comment on whether DeMentri had vandalized Delgado's car.

UPDATE: Lower Merion Township spokeswoman Brenda Viola said this afternoon that she could not say there was not an investigation into an incident in the NBC 10 parking lot, but said if there had been one it would be over and she did not expect DeMentri to either be arrested or turn himself in over the matter. "This is now a non-issue," Viola said. A Lower Merion Police official just told news crews they should leave as there is no story to be found.

I agree totally with Ann Arkey! They don't go out and find the news,which is so dumb and lacking in substance,that I believe or care what these over-paid actors have to say about anything. Thats why it's funny to see Larry Mendte,Alycia Lane and Vince DiMentri shoot themselves in the foot. They should make a new Ron Burgundy movie with these three; You stay classy,Philly.

hate to say it, but sage is right...the guy is really short tempered...nice...but short tempered and has flown off the handle several times. this doesn't surprise me at all.

Would CBS 3 or NBC 10 just hire Dave Huddleston already. He's a great guy! A real professional who doesn't add drama to the set.

Don't you just love this stuff, these talking heads are just suppose to read the news and now suddenly, they are the news. I'm telling you we got the makings of a great celebrity match here. Dawn "your taking food out of my kids mouth" Stensland vs Alicia "hey don't you know who I am" Lane followed on the card by Vince "slickback" Dimentri vs Glenn "bobble head" Schwartz, Lori Delgado of course as guest ref.

Iceman, in all fairness who are the 2 news people mentioned in this article that have done somethnig wrong? DeMentri and Mendte. It makes sense to me that most comments would focus on those two. Lighten up dude - unless you're being sarcastic. If so, it's not translating well. Looks like Vince has some issues, that's for sure. Can't these people take a page from Jim Gardner or Rene Chenault's book and remember that you're "supposed" to be a respected journalist?

Hey iceman, um i dont know how to respond to you because you make no sense. I wasn't bashing bolaris, he just talked about Larry Mente being almost over-driven. After all Alicia Lane was reported to say "do you know who I am?" which is also funny seeing as how no one would know her. Iceman you are a funny guy, but not because you are funny yourself I just laugh that you try to "get" me yet you are wrong and your insults make no sense

Please --- not another station with anchor problems. The city is losing population; there is a gun problem; homelessness. These stations have too many anchors sitting on their haunches. They should be out in field reporting more stories. The anchors appear to be overpaid and overexposed.

The guy gets in a fight and intimidates Hurricane (oooh big man) and was arrested and charged (later dropped) for impersonating an agent after 9/11. The guy has a history of this stuff and is not surprised. I guess newscasters today are a lot more egotistical. Check out Bolaris' comments on P & S or 610 for how Mente was a driven guy who would do ANYTHING to keep himself on top.

Those 2 deserve each other (Lori/Vince). Both are thick as planks. I cringed every time Vince did an interview with someone because he invariably stepped in it with a dumb remark. I miss the days of Steve "I love Paris in the Springtime" Levi and Dawn Timmoney.

Please ....can't these guys have some personality? Not every single thing someone does has to reflect on the station...here is one of the few "LOCAL" people who get IT, because they are from Philly....I don't have to wonder if he is doing a stand up from Cottman & Frankford if he will sign off saying..."live from FRANKFORD"....let Vince BE Vince...good guy...told the cop story so well the other week...
