U.S. Attorney to announce charge against Larry Mendte at 1 PM
Acting U.S. Attorney Laurie Magid is expected to announce at 1 p.m. that former CBS 3 anchor Larry Mendte has be charged by information with one count of unauthorized access to a computer system, related to the federal investigation of whether Mendte hacked the private e-mails of former colleague Alycia Lane. Legal community sources tell us that when one is charged by information, rather than indictment, it typically signals a plea or sentencing agreement has been reached. Neither Patty Hartman, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office or Mendte's lawyer Michael Schwartz immediately returned calls for comment this morning.

He is still a guy who reads news off a prompter. What he did was wrong (if proven to have done it), but again...how pathetic are we that we're supposed to "trust" these people and believe in their integrity to report the news. They READ the news. I took no more comfort out of Tom Brokaw broadcasting the events of 9/11 than if John Stewart had done it.
Bye Bye Larry. If they let you go you are very lucky. Personally I hope you rott.
I always liked him and appreciated all he did in the community. I don't think that one mistake should define a man. Let he wo is without sins cast the first stone.
Wow, who knew it was a feeral crime to look at somebody else's emails and us ethe information. This happens in the corporate world all of the time.
I have seen him out in the community more than any other anchor who ever came to this city. I think he is a good man who made a bad mistake. And we have not heardhis side of the story yet...
Oh come on UncleTommy, there are laws and when they're broken, people need to face the consequences. Laws are what keep order in our society. Therefore, don't equate our laws to your bible loving lifestyle, they are two different things. Mendte broke a law and he needs to face the music.
That charge has a 30 day maximum sentence from what I can tell. My guess is he pled it down to probation plus fine.
I like him and miss him on the air. I have been watching him for years and feel like I know him. I hope he and his family are going to be okay. My love to Dawn and their children.
All so he could look a bikini pictures of a hag. Stay classy!
Is there something in the water at Channel 3????? The place is toxic. Larry, you've got problems. Better you than me.....
Bad Larry. The least you could have done is leak the bikini shots. Take your hand-slap like a man and leave town.
Its crazy to me that some of you are anti larry right now. He has done more for the people in this city then any of you. So now he may or may not have made a mistake, and that gives you people the right to become the executioners?. How many time have you done the same thing or worse? And the funny thing, if he did do it, all he did was fine proof of all the wrong things Ms. Lane did. You all seem to forgot about those. Larry is a good man. If he really did make a mistake, then he will deal with the conciseness and go on with his life. One mistake doesn’t not equal a life of good.
That'll be the least of his worries. Get ready for the civil suit by Lane.
yeah, but what a mistake
Maybe not. He is small potatoes. Lane will use Mendte in her civil suit against CBS, which I believe she has already filed. That is where the real money is. She could be set for life thanks to the Mendte mistake.
