Mikey Wild, the old-school Philly punk-musician-turned marker artist, is in hospice care at Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse, says his brother Ben DeLuca.
Wild, born Michael DeLuca, has had lung cancer for nearly three years.
He recently completed a short film with producer/director Issac Williams called "Paying the Price," and played some shows last year while in remission."Being mentally challenged, Mikey found his niche in life early on and made the most of it," Ben said yesterday.
"And isn't it ironic that he'll spend his last days on South Street where it all started for him in the late '70s, early '80s," his brother noted, pointing out that Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse is at 18th & South.
Wild, who's biggest song was "I Was Punk B4 U Were Punk," is still known to many as the Mayor of South Street.
Danny Krimpet loves punk rock. Captain Terrific- True legend for sure!

Saw him play with Scareho as his backing band last Summer at a small place called The Cricket Club in South Philly. Cheat to Win and Welter also played. Was that his last show? jsaul
Used to see Mikey all the time on 9th Street, upon until recently when he got too sick to come out. I miss rifling through his drawings on weekend mornings picking out the one(s) I wanted to buy that day. I've got his "John Lennon Playing Piano" hanging on my fridge right now, in fact. I already miss him being around. I gave him one of my old fedoras that he loved and used to wear around all the time. Best dude. He is a part of our neighborhood. Next time you're passing Molly's Books, take a close look at the storefront mosaic for a tribute to him. MattJH
