We don’t know their take on the SEPTA strike, but Jimmy Rollins and outfielder Shane Victorino have made their position clear when it comes to the Employee Free Choice Act.

The Phillies teammates appear in a new AFL-CIO ad supporting the congressional bill that would make it easier for workers to join labor unions. The Major League Baseball Players Association asked the pair, who support the initiative, to pose for the ad, that recently ran in the Politico newspaper.

Rollins and Victorino appear alongside Yankees infielder Mark Teixeira (Booooooo) and nine other MLB players “who were gracious enough to lend their names to the ad to support workers all across the country,” says AFL-CIO media specialist Eddie Vale. Vale is a Mets fan but said he was rooting for the Phillies Wednesday, as “I hate the Yankees even more.

P.S. Congratulations to the 2009 Phillies on a terrific season.

If I want someone to hit or catch a baseball, I'll contact Jimmy or Shane. If I want political advice I'll go elsewhere thank you.

This Free Choice Act certainly lives up to it's name. You'll have the choice either to be intimidated in a hostile workplace, or not.

Yeah, I must have missed the rule that says once you become famous, you lose your right to free speech. Rollins and Victorino have just as much right to express their opinion as you do. BTW, if it weren't for organized labor, you'd have: less safe workplaces, no minimum wage, no weekends, no overtime pay...

Kudos to the guys for doing the right thing by workers. EFCA would be the single greatest anti-poverty law passed in American in more than 50 years. Now more than ever workers need the right to organize from from fear and intimidation. Everyone should support EFCA.

Whether you agree with the merits of the EFCA or not, there's no sense in attacking Shane and Young James for taking this stance as the first commenters have. Don't forget, they're union members (the Baseball Players Association is a labor union), so it makes sense that they should stand up for union issues.

Boy the only ones who should shut up are the neanderthal clowns who hate unions. Their too dumb to realize how the middle class rose and fell directly along with the simultaneous rise and fall of unions.

"Their too dumb." There is much humor in irony.
