Michael Vick bails out of Oprah interview

POSTED: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 4:36 PM

The "Oprah Winfrey Show" says Michael Vick has canceled his appearance on the show which was scheduled for Feb. 24 "for personal reasons."

"Michael Vick was scheduled to be a guest on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' for an episode airing next Thursday, February 24," said an Oprah show spokesman. "Mr. Vick’s representatives called last night to cancel his appearance for personal reasons."

“After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future," Vick said in a statement through his spokesman Chris Shigas.

The possibility that Vick had backed out was first reported this afternoon by Philly.com's Marnie Hall in the video that is embedded here.

Vick's scheduled appearance on Oprah was first reported by Fox 29's Jennaphr Frederick Monday and confirmed by the Eagles and Oprah's Harpo Productions.

The interview was to be taped Tuesday, Feb. 22 in Chicago.

Sounds like Oprah did not want to clear her questions in advance and Vick didn't want to be caught off guard. C'mon Mike, man up, face your demons.

Michael Vick is scum of the earth. What he did years ago will always shine a negative light on this scumbag. Most of the population don't go around murdering and torturing dogs, Mr. Vick. There will be a nice place for you when you die - it's called h**l.

Vick is a dirty coward. He didn't mind torturing those poor dogs but he can't face an audience, nor can he face Oprah who might ask him some tough questions.

Honestly don't care about the guy in Pittsburgh. He's been stupid and is lucky to have stayed out of a courtroom. I also don't hear constantly what a wonderful human being he is and how he's changed. Perhaps someone from Pittsburgh could better attest to how he's treated there. Vick's skipping Oprah to avoid he questions about what he did and how as a human being he could do such things. If he truly agreed to the interview, what questions did Vick think she would ask? Does she care about the last play of the Green Bay game? Doubtful. It's his right not to talk about it and it's my right to still not believe he's sorry for what he did, but sorry he got caught. Perhaps the guy in Pittsburgh is the same. I was rooting for Green Bay in the Super Bowl and he was one of the reasons why.

Report: Owners of Vick’s dogs were “flooding” Oprah show
Posted by Mike Florio on February 16, 2011, 10:56 PM EST
Earlier today, we surmised that Eagles quarterback Mike Vick possibly decided to cancel an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show because he feared an ambush from the owners of one of his fighting dogs, perhaps with one or more of the dogs making an appearance, too.

For a change, we may have surmised correctly.

Michael McCarthy of USA Today reports that owners of dogs rescued from Vick’s rural Virginia property had been “flooding” Oprah’s show with calls and e-mails requesting that the “voices of the victims’ families” be heard on the show.

Radio host Wayne Hunter, who tried unsuccessfully to question Vick regarding his former dogs during Super Bowl week in Dallas, told McCarthy that Hunter believes Vick bailed because he feared being confronted by one or more of the people who adopted his dogs.

“True to form, when Michael Vick feels the heat, he scrambles out of the pocket,” Hunter said.

To be honest, Oprah is a huge DOG lover, can't imagine why she would want sick Mike Vick on her show in the first place. I will never watch Oprah again nor buy her magazine. Vick should always remember the innocent victims of his crime, dogs that were forced to fight and ultimately die because all they wanted was to love and be loved. This is not about race, it's about right from wrong. And if i hear one more person comment that he didn't realize what he was doing was wrong, then all of you Vick supporters belong in the same category as Vick...losers. Just for the record Roethlisberger didn't kill anyone, human or animal, not saying he's a good person but it seems like a lot of these women are making bad decisions about being with these guys based on their paychecks/careers, while ignoring their reputation. Shame on them!

This story is so not newsworthy. Oprah & Vick both losers like the people who follow them.
