Maggie Gyllenhaal to star in "Hysteria," based on a story by Tattle's Howard Gensler

Maggie Gyllenhall, Rupert Everett, Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce will star in "Hysteria," an independent comedy about the creation of the vibrator in Victorian era England whose screenplay is based on a story by Daily News Tattle columnist Howard Gensler.

Maggie Gyllenhall, Rupert Everett, Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce will star in "Hysteria," an independent comedy about the creation of the vibrator in Victorian era England whose screenplay is based on a story by Daily News Tattle columnist Howard Gensler.

Tanya Wexler will direct the film, written by Stephen Dyer and Jonah Lisa Dyer Variety reports.

Dancy and Pryce play London doctors treating women for irritability, anger and sadness when Everett, the best friend of Dancy's character experiments with a new device that may help. Gyllenhaal plays the daughter of Pryce's character. The story,  which is loosely based on actual events, is scheduled to begin shooting in October in London and Luxembourg. 

Beachfront Films' Tracey Becker ("Finding Neverland"), Forthcoming Films' Sarah Curtis ("Mansfield Park"),  and Informant Media's Judy Cairo ("Crazy Heart") are producers.
