Eleven employees laid off today at CBS 3

Eleven CBS 3 newsroom staffers, including a writer, an editor, a producer, an archivist and other support personnel arrived at work today only to be laid off, sources tell us. The station, which has more than 300 employees,  is also offering early retirement incentives to several veteran on-air personalities including meteorologist Tom Lamaine. CBS has also laid off workers this week at its stations in Denver, Sacramento and Miami. A CBS 3 spokeswoman said the station does not comment on personnel decisions. Our spies tell us it's a pretty brutal scene over there, with plenty of tears, and disbelief. In a related story, Fox 29 laid off four writers on Wednesday in what station Vice President and News Director Kingsley Smith said is "part of a restructuring of our newsroom."

hmmm, haven't kept up too much on philly news. apparently aylcia lane is O-U-T!? yeah, she was a bit of a princess... BUT yes, the bigger issue is people continuing to lose their jobs. i know 4 people who lost their jobs & won't get them back. one in marketing was making over $50k... any job he applies for is offering HALF that. he can make more on unemployment staying home - for now anyway.

Alycia could very well be part of the reason these layoffs happened in the first place. She brought shame, bad publicity and probably bad ratings to the station. She has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit that the station needs to get ready for. She took looong dinner breaks, refused to come in for assignments and was a horrible co-worker. The people who were laid off are hard workers and had been a KYW for a long time. Unlike Alycia, they did not deserve this.

The layoffs must be related to the slow down in killings in Phila this year.

They have more weather casters that they know what to do with. I laugh when I see during the evening broadcast they need 2 in the studio at the same time to do the weather, WHY??? Who cares?

Wow, some of you are quite harsh. These are just regular people doing a job. Of course layoffs are a part of the real world but it's still okay to feel sad for good hardworking people losing their stability.

freddy, if people want to work long hours for meager pay that is their right. if they don't like it they can migrate to a different job with better hours and more pay. i don't feel sorry for people who make a decision to do something they like for less money than they can get doing something they don't like. that's life. your chagrin is misplaced.

Wow are you IGNORANT. For every Alicya Lane there is a staff of 100 working horrible hours for meager pay. Those are the people who were laid off. Notice it says "support personel." You should learn to read.

I wonder if Alycia is going to lead the support group for her compatriots. Maybe they will get a big voodoo doll and all stick pins in it together. CBS3 is so cold-hearted.

Why should the TV and media be any different then all of us. Maybe they will now realize that the economy is a mess and the froo froo world they have lived in isn't real. SMELL THE COFFEE.
