Anchor Tim Lake is out at NBC10. Station did not renew his contract.

Veteran NBC10 anchor Tim Lake worked his last shift at the station Friday night, though you wouldn't have known it had you seen the 11 p.m. newscast.

Lake, whose contract was not renewed, sources tell us, made no reference to leaving the station, where he had worked for 20 years.

News Director Anzio Williams emailed staff around 11:55 Friday night to say "I would like to thank Tim Lake for his many years of service as a reporter and anchor at NBC10. Today was Tim's last day. We wish him well in the future. A search for a new anchor is underway."

We're told Lake knew for several months that his contract was not being renewed by the station, but that Williams' announcement blindsided most of his colleagues.

Sources say they expect management to do more housecleaning of on-air talent, in addition to recent firings of writers, producers and other off-air staffers.

Lake had co-anchored the 6 and 11 p.m. news with Renee Chenault-Fattah for 11 years.

Reached at home Sunday, Lake declined comment. An NBC10 spokeswoman confirmed Lake is no longer with the station but would not provide any additional details, or say why Lake's departure was not referenced on air.

Perhaps they can replace him with someone with a pulse.

I always liked Tim so this is quite shocking, particularly after 20 years of service to one company. I'm sure he could use the down-time and will bounce back.

Hey Pompous Pontius - I think it had more to do with whether or not he was 'pretty' enough, 'fresh' enough, 'hunk' enough, etc. because it is those sort of superficial characteristics local news is built around.

Trust me, they don't care about 'politics' or spousal affiliations. The management is dumber than that at LFF or CBP.

I watched Mr. Lake in Houston for a few years, and he was the only reason I watched NBC10 news ever. Now, there is no reason why I should not stick with CBS3 all the time!

Unbelievable that Chenault-Fattah still has a job. She is the worst, with her constant verbal stumbles and her fake empathy.

What are the networks looking for? What does it take to read the copy of the events of the day. Speaking ability and appearance will suffice.

Glad he's gone. He's not good-looking AND he's stupid. I watched Channel 10 at 4 and then couldn't change the station fast enough when Tim Lake came on. Never thought I'd live to see the day he'd be gone.

Anyone want to bet he's replaced by a black person? Probably a black female?

Unfortunately for Lake, he looked and sounded too much like MItt Romney.

"whether or not he was 'pretty' enough, 'fresh' enough, 'hunk' enough, etc." has nothing to do with it. Jim Gardner or Rob Jennings don't meet those criteria, and yet they are very well liked and respected. Channel 6 just does it right. I agree Chenault-Fattah is the worst- I can't stand her fakeness.

It's very unfortunate. Tim was one of best talents at NBC10. The newer anchor additions leave so much to be desired. These decisions will keep NBC10 at the bottom in the local ratings.

Listen, HE knew for months he wasn't in the stations plans to move forward. He'll bounce, no worries, newscasters are like NFL coaches, somewhere, across this vast sea of TV news, he will be pickup. One more point, THERE IS NO LOYALITY at your place of empoyment. Whether you work 5 years or 25 years, "they" don't care, so YOU shouldn't either. If something beter comes along, take it, leave immediately (or they will fire you, if given the chance)and start your new career! Never look back, that was then, this is now ! Move on !

Tim was a first class act. News is a cut-throat business and in Philadelphia it's an art form. The only good thing that's happened in the past couple of years was Shenna, Queen of the Jungle and all she surveys. She's beyond geogeous. Whatever the weather is, it will always be fair and warmer if she says so.
