6ABC's Lisa Thomas-Laury takes Lankenau Hospital to court

6ABC's Lisa Thomas-Laury sued Lankenau Hospital and Dr. Clifford Pemberton, an oncologist and hematologist, for malpractice alleging they failed to diagnose her with POEMS syndrome, a rare nerve disorder, when she saught treatment in 2001. Jury selection begins Tuesday at Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, as Margaret Gibbons of the Bucks County Courier-Times has reported.

Thomas-Laury, a beloved Action News anchor for many years spent nearly four years off-air while battling POEMS, but returned to the station in 2006 as a reporter and fill-in anchor. The lawsuit was filed by Thomas-Laury and her husband Dr. William J. Laury, an internist, in Dec. 2006.

Thomas-Laury's complaint states that a Mayo Clinic physician properly diagnosed her in May 2004.

Dr. Laury declined comment when reached at home Monday, and through a station spokeswoman, Thomas-Laury could not be reached. Lankenau Hospital did not return a request for comment Monday. Dr. Pemberton, who practices in Wynnewood, was unable to be reached for comment as well.
