POSTED: Monday, May 16, 2011, 11:35 AM

CNN anchor Don Lemon, who spent several years as a reporter and weekend anchor at NBC10, reveals that he is gay in his new memoir "Transparent."

“I abhor hypocrisy,” Lemon told the New York Times about his decision to come out.  “I think if you’re going to be in the business of news, and telling people the truth, of trying to shed light in dark places, then you’ve got to be honest. You’ve got to have the same rules for yourself as you do for everyone else.”

Lemon, 45, last made headlines in September when he admitted on air that he had been the victim of sexual abuse as a child by someone close to him while reporting on a story on the allegations against Georgia pastor Eddie Long.

Who cares? I don't go around bragging I'm straight. If you gay your gay, nobody cares anymore. It's no longer 1960.

Well, you certainly can't brag about your grammatical skills...And your post is off the mark. There is no "bragging" involved and people do still care about homosexuality. Have you never heard of the Defense of Marriage Act? Or Proposition 8 in California? These are both de facto anti-gay legislation. In many places in the world you can be killed or imprisoned for being gay, and there are still instances of violence against gay people in this country. Mr. Lemon has taken a career risk by coming out, but he will serve as a model for other young men who may be currently living in fear.

Snark aside -- I couldn't help myself -- I wish him the best. A gay minority, who's a victim of sexual abuse? That's a rough paper route.

Nobody gives a damn about what you do behind closed doors, just don't shove it down our throats. Just like I don't care who likes beets, they just aren't for me!!!!!!

Hmmm, slick mike I find it very interesting that you use "behind closed doors" and then reference shoving stuff down your throat in the same sentence. Now, I may just play a doctor on TV, but I do feel qualified ebough to tell you all about the latient homosexual tendencies you are unconsciously exhibiting.

CNN telling the Truth? It is a start, but how about telling the NEWS, not just the news that you like?
