Talk hosts Opie & Anthony were cut from the 94 WYSP line-up this afternoon, ‘YSP VP/GM David Yadgaroff has confirmed.
The jocks are broadcast on a number of CBS Radio stations, as well as on XM Satellite Radio.
‘YSP’s a CBS station, but had its own deal with the talk hosts. O & A's executive producer, Steve Carlesi, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Yadgaroff declined comment on details of how his station was able to dump the hosts, who our sources say, had been under contract until next spring. We reported exclusively on Sept. 20 that the station was considering dumping O&A soon and replacing them with Kidd Chris in the mornings.
Kidd Chris, who hosts 3 to 7 p.m. was the station’s only host who was not fired when ‘YSP dropped its talk format last month, which we told you first.
Chris told us last month he didn’t know about any morning plans, but said if he did move to mornings, 93.3 WMMR’s morning team Preston & Steve should expect “a bloodbath.” The host did not immediately return a text message seeking comment on whether he was moving to mornings in the very near future.
Yadgaroff wouldn’t comment on whether Kidd Chris is moving to mornings, but says he’s considering many options, and expects to have an announcement in weeks, not months. In the meantime, music will play in mornings as it does throughout the day, with exception for Kidd Chris’ slot which is half music/half talk.
Meanwhile, 610 WIP, another CBS station has brought in Andy Bloom, a program director who let the Howard Stern vs. John DeBella battle at ‘YSP in the mid-1980s and may also lead Angelo Cataldi’s morning show into battle against the very successful Preston & Steve broadcast.
