...or a third pitching scenario

An extra start for Halladay can prompt smiles. (YONG KIM / Staff photographer)

BOSTON -- We detailed two possible moves the Phillies could make with their rotation in an earlier post. Well, pitching coach Rich Dubee has a third solution:

Roy Halladay will indeed pitch Tuesday in New York against Yankees ace CC Sabathia. But the Phillies will not skip Kyle Kendrick. Instead, he will pitch Wednesday.

This way, Dubee said, Halladay will get six starts before the All-Star break as opposed to five. He gets to start the opener against the Yankees and then pitch against the first-place Minnesota Twins.

That means, if all goes according to plan (which it never does), Halladay's next six starts will be:

Tuesday @ NYY
June 20 vs. MIN
June 26 vs. TOR (six days rest)
July 1 @ PIT
July 6 vs. ATL
July 11 vs. CIN

If it plays out like this, the move also ensures Halladay will not be on the National League roster for the All-Star game in Anaheim. Major League Baseball instituted a new rule this season that starters who pitch on the final day before the break will be replaced on the roster.

ROLLINS REHAB PUSHED BACK

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins (strained right calf) was scheduled to begin his rehab for single-A Clearwater on Monday. He now will not play until Tuesday, a team official said Friday.

Rollins figures to require more than the one rehab game he played last time he was on the disabled list.

The issue is not when Halladay is pitching ... The problem arises when it's not Halladay's turn.

Boy this team stinks out loud and all around. Lazy and content hitters and 9 run starts by an AARP member in their pitching staff. Quietly they are seemingly reverting back to their underachieving ways from a few years back. Ughhh

Bottom of the 2nd and score is 9-0, Boston. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE game!!! Phillies cannot hit, Moyer cannot pitch....The Green Monster is getting multiple dents from all the Bean Boys long balls. Why am I torturing myself watching this agony??? And these guys make massive amounts of $$$$$$ to play like little leaguers. Sad.

It doesn't matter who is pitching for the Phillies as long as Milt Thompson is in charge of the offense. It's beyond time to fire that clown and shake up the roster with some trades. Booooooooo!!!!!

Halladay should demand a trade. The poor guy wanted to be on a winner, but is now on the worst team in baseball.

This interleague stretch is going to kill the Phillies' season. By July 1st they'll be under .500 and still looking up at the Braves. Rollins' return won't matter if Utley, Howard and Werth continue their slide into irrelevance.

Can we trade Werth to Seattle for Lee?

@Tonka - Chase Utley's divorce? What??? Where is your attribution for that statement? Are you on here trolling, trying to start nasty rumors? Shame on you. Chase is slumping because ... well, I don't know why, but don't throw out nasty rumors like that.

In some pictures, Utley's wife looks 50 years old. Or is that his mother?

Fire the batting coach. Bring up and start the 2 best bats in the minors, and sit the 2 starters at the new bring-ups' positions. If these corrections don't work, begin trading.

Why feel sorry for Halladay? He forced the Jays to trade him and the Jays are playing better for it.

Recently there have been two problems. The first is the Phillies are not good at manufacturing runs in the late innings in close games (the Braves, for instance, are very good at this). The second is they do not know how to pitch (or hit) at Fenway. Neither of these should or will stop them from winning the division. It's a long long season. Happ pitches today at Reading. Rollins will be back in a few weeks. All (or most)of this will soon be forgotten.

I think Charlie is being a little bit complacent in his managing right now. I've been a supporter of his through the losing streaks, all things considered, in my opinion, he does a great job and makes good decisions, until lately. He gives Werth the day off, all 3 outfielders that day performed great (Francisco winning rbi's, Ibanez 4 for 5, Vic being Vic) and instead of going with that the following game, he puts Werth back in there because he was worried about offending him. That was stupid. Schneider has 3 hits in a game for the 1st time since 2008, and instead of letting him DH again today, riding a hot streak, he sits him. Castro is batting 8th, Ruiz 9th, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. And get Utley to admit he's hurt and sit him, or take him out of the 3rd spot for being as stubborn as he is and continuing to hurt the team with his lack of production.

EVERYBODY has a solution. The truth is that whenever the Phils break out of their slump, EVERYBODY will point at something and say "That's what did it!" The truth is that baseball is a game of statisitics and averages, and most of our guys hit a low spot at the same time. The problem is that it begins getting into their heads, then it's hard to pull out of it. Charley is taking the right approach by not making drastic changes. You can't threaten a player who's doing his best to break out. What's he gonna do? Try harder? Don't you think every one of them is trying his best? All we can do is keep rooting for them, and hope this is over soon.
