Wednesday's Word from Vegas

The Phillies still have a chance to land Mark DeRosa from the Cubs, but a report that the Phillies would send J.A. Happ or Carlos Carrasco and Jason Donald is a stretch. Think about that for a second: why would the Phillies trade two of their top prospects for a part-time leftfielder who is signed only through 2009? Especially when they have other options available, like Raul Ibanez? The Inquirer's Jim Salisbury is hearing names like Happ, Kyle Kendrick and Jason Jaramillo could be part of the deal, but not Carrasco and Donald.

While Donald is not part of a DeRosa deal, he could be shipped in other deals ... such as a trade to Minnesota for Delmon Young.

The Phillies apparently are very close to a minor trade. Details are unclear. Stay tuned.
