Victorino suspended 3 games

POSTED: Monday, August 8, 2011, 6:07 PM

LOS ANGELES — Shane Victorino was suspended three games and fined by Major League Baseball for his actions in Friday's benches-clearing brawl at San Francisco. And he is the only player from either team to receive a suspension.

No Giants were reprimanded games for their actions. Both Eli Whiteside and Ramon Ramirez were fined an undisclosed amount. Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco was also fined.

Victorino's suspension would have begun Monday but he will appeal.

"Victorino’s aggressive actions prolonged the bench-clearing incident between the Clubs," according to a release issued by the commissioner's office.

Wow! It was clear that the Giants catcher, Eli Whiteside, escalated the situation with his heavyweight fighter dance. Also, Ramirez coming off the mound as soon as he pegged Victorino basically said "I was throwing at you, what are you going to do about it?" Don't disagree that the Flyin' Hawaiian didn't deserve 3 games, but those guys deserved at least one game!

The incident started when he was hit by a pitch! Even in grade school they suspend the instigator and the retaliator.

The giants drill the guy in the back and when he reacts like any man would, he gets suspended. No doubt they will continue this behavior. I can still remember that punk Sanchez staring down Chase Utley. Giants are due for a righteous smackdown.

WOW!!! Whenever you think this commissioner can't do something dumber than the last thing, he does this. How can you watch the tape of the altercation and conclude that Victorino prolonged the brawl? And is he suggesting that suspensions are warranted only for prolonging brawls and that instigating and inciting brawls will only be fined? Yes, Victorino deserves a suspension, but the commissioner has got to be kidding not to mete out suspensions to any Giant player. This is a leader?

They got Victorino for re engaging in the scrum and taking a swing at the Giants 1B coach Ron Wotus when Victorino dove back in for seconds.

Great! Thanks for doing this, MLB Office. Instead of having both teams affected, the fact that only Shane gets suspended will just serve as a reminder if both teams meet in the playoffs, when it'll count more. Giants will be watched more carefully, and Phils will be reminded of this total inequity of treatment and prompted to give a lesson to the 'Gints. Have someone like Kendrick late in a game the Phils are way up (the last game would be a great chance) throw at a Giant, and who cares if he gets suspended. How Ramirez at least doesn't get suspended for a few games is beyond me.

The Cryin' Hawaiian got what he deserved and is fortunate it wasn't longer. He's a hot-head who is never wrong--in his own mind.

Why does everyone miss the FACT that Pablo Sandoval first choked a player and then threw punches in the pile??? I agree Vic should get his suspension, but to miss a player throwing heymakers is ridiculous!!
