Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock

The clock is ticking toward today's 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline. Ooooh, it's so exciting!

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock

It looks like Chase Utley's hip is fine. He homered again last night against the Nationals. (CHARLES DHARAPAK / Associated Press)

Hey, anybody know when the trade deadline is?

Oh, it's today?

At 4 o'clock?

Thanks, I hadn't heard that. Jim Salisbury takes a look at what's on the table for the Phillies, and what's not on the table. Not on the table: Manny Ramirez. On the table: a lefthanded reliever. Keep an eye on San Francisco's Jack Taschner, Kansas City's Ron Mahay and Pittsburgh's John Grabow. Pat Gillick would like to improve the bullpen for the stretch run, and he seems to think a trade is possible -- though not probable. Phillies fans might have to settle for Joe Blanton, whom the Phillies acquired during the all-star break.

Jamie Moyer pitched well again last night in an 8-5 victory over the Nationals, which put the Phillies back in first place in the National League East.

*

So because Jimmy Rollins didn't talk to reporters over the weekend in Philadelphia, everybody assumed that Rollins is fuming over his benching last week in New York. But Rollins said that isn't the case. He said his relationship with Charlie Manuel is fine, and the past is the past.

"If there was a rift, I think it would affect the team," Rollins said. "I'm not going to affect the team in that way. It's not even worth it. For what? What would come of it?"

In the Phillies Notebook: the trade deadline, including Pudge Rodriguez, and Kyle Drabek returns to the mound and more.

How about this: According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Cardinals are willing to trade Kyle Lohse in the right deal. They're looking for a bat and a reliever. Lohse could be one of the better names out there, though he's better served in the NL. The Cardinals certainly won't be sellers - they're just percentage points behind the Brewers for the wild card......I guess the Cards are lookin to move him because they don't think they will be able to re-sign him. I know we won't be going after him though, because he already spurned us last off season, he is a Scott Boras client, and we aren't willing to part with major prospects. Just thought it was interesting.

"If there was a rift, I think it would affect the team," Rollins said. "I'm not going to affect the team in that way. It's not even worth it. For what? What would come of it?" -am i the only one who reads this as there is a rift between j-roll and charlie? j-roll needs to grow up, i wish holliday had won the MVP last year, he would have been thirstier this year...

griffey and his .234-,245. not an upgrade. the 1990's have ended and while griffey has been one of my favorites due to ability and class, he is NOT an upgrade over what we have, unless all you are looking for is a name. So basically at this stage of his career, yes Werth is a better option

Would love to be a fly-on-the-wall in the *war room* today.

Main liner - I read into it as you did. Instead of saying absolutely no rift, he loves Charlie - he said a rift would be bad. He's not happy. Yahmpy - are we really going to look at every other trade and ask why not us? Seriously, do we need an aging, often hurt, left handed "power" bat? No, we do not. Making a trade just to make a trade is not going to get it done either. By the way, Griffey is batting almost a full 30 points lower than Werth, and only has 1 more HR. So, I'll take Werth any day. This isn't Griffey 10 years ago. Know what you're talking about before you post.

Well since Griffey is a lefty, he would be playing for Geoff Jenkins and his golf swing. That is an upgrade.

Morning Todd!! Does not look good for anything then. Anyone ever play the game just the tip? Kind of what the Phillies do every year to use fans.

would be wiling to consider trading for Lohse (again). He's worth renting for the two months if we don't have to give up the entire future. What do the Cards want in return?

Let's trade them Jenkins and Seanez. That deal would work for the Yankees.

scotty82, what are you talking about? Trade Jenkins and Seanez to who for whom? (they would have to be the stupidest idiot on the planet to make that deal)
