Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock

The clock is ticking toward today's 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline. Ooooh, it's so exciting!

It looks like Chase Utley's hip is fine. He homered again last night against the Nationals. (CHARLES DHARAPAK / Associated Press)

Hey, anybody know when the trade deadline is?

Oh, it's today?

At 4 o'clock?

Thanks, I hadn't heard that. Jim Salisbury takes a look at what's on the table for the Phillies, and what's not on the table. Not on the table: Manny Ramirez. On the table: a lefthanded reliever. Keep an eye on San Francisco's Jack Taschner, Kansas City's Ron Mahay and Pittsburgh's John Grabow. Pat Gillick would like to improve the bullpen for the stretch run, and he seems to think a trade is possible -- though not probable. Phillies fans might have to settle for Joe Blanton, whom the Phillies acquired during the all-star break.

Jamie Moyer pitched well again last night in an 8-5 victory over the Nationals, which put the Phillies back in first place in the National League East.

*

So because Jimmy Rollins didn't talk to reporters over the weekend in Philadelphia, everybody assumed that Rollins is fuming over his benching last week in New York. But Rollins said that isn't the case. He said his relationship with Charlie Manuel is fine, and the past is the past.

"If there was a rift, I think it would affect the team," Rollins said. "I'm not going to affect the team in that way. It's not even worth it. For what? What would come of it?"

In the Phillies Notebook: the trade deadline, including Pudge Rodriguez, and Kyle Drabek returns to the mound and more.

"Quality?" Gillick was the one who dumped Abreu to begin with. That's a crock. What are you, a Mets fan? Get outta here.

don't take my word for it .. go see Jayson Stark's column -- it's all over ESPN TV too. Done deal. Abreu might even be in DC in time for tonight's game.

wcgiles - you're more full of it than most. I am keeping up with every site, and radio, and nothing is being said about any deal involving the Phillies and Abreu. Stop trying to cause a stir.

Werth & Victorino are two good young players---both have lots of chutpah, speed etc. If we're getting Holliday maybe, but not for Manny or please, please not Abreu!

Checking out ESPN "TV," and having 950 ESPN "Radio" on all day, there's nothing about an Abreu deal. Go back to your Mets blogs jacka$$

Stark's is an idiot who hasn't gotten anything right all year. If they trade a water bottle for Abreu they deserve to finish last in Clas A ball this year

This is real nice. Sorry, I thought this was a place for intelligent Phillies talk, but apparently it's just a place to beat up on someone who is only delivering the news.

wcgiles: the front office is assinine, but even they aren't assinine to trade 2 young great players for a guy we gave away 2 years ago due to his lousy attitude, lack of work ethics, etc. If you are (God forbid) correct, I will personnaly send you two tickets to the first World Serries game held in Phila (I figure with the trade you mention, that should be in about 2556)

If the rumor is SOMEHOW true-I say praise the Lord. Victorino whom I like, plays with excitement and hustle is free from this organization and Abreau who was part of the Leiby/Wolf/Burrell era malaise comes back to this clueless organization!! Good luck Shane!!!
