Source: Phillies getting closer to deal with Reyes

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Phillies may have found their lefthanded reliever.
A source said the team is getting closer to reaching an agreement with lefthander Dennys Reyes. ESPN Deportes is reporting the contract would be one year with a team option for 2012.
The Phillies had a formal meeting with Oscar Suarez, the agent for Reyes, on Tuesday, but there was no offer made at the time. Talks have progressed today, though.
Reyes had a 3.55 ERA in 59 games (38 innings) for St. Louis in 2010. He had control issues, though, and walked 21 batters while striking out 25. Lefthanded batters hit .307 with a .862 OPS against.
For his career, lefties have hit .238 with a .669 OPS against.
More to come...
- What is with the infatuation with veteran relief pitchers. We tie up so much money in guys that pitch in the 6th and 7th inning that it's no wonder we have to tighten the belt when it comes getting another bat.
Let Bastardo and Mathieson grow into ML relievers and stop it with the Baez and Reyes signings. booman55
They can not be serious Reyes, as of today the Braves have surpassed the Phillies in Talent with loss of Werth and Braves addition of Uglla and others Phillies will fall behind the braves. Amaro is a joke if he expects us to buy this, he better have something big up his sleeve or Phillies are in trouble.

Pony up and get Downs or Feliciano or Fuentes or ANYBODY who can actually get lefties out! Not a guy who lets them hit .300! WTF? ejc527- Frenchy wants to k 200 times fuss77
Since they offered Werth $15M/yr., it means they have at least that much to spend. Get a GOOD one, not a guy w/ severe reverse splits. ejc527
Francouer chose the Royals strictly on playing time. bobbyuk
Dennys and Dannys?...they are both fat and overrated. Cmon Ruben. Dr. Michael
Comment removed.- Does this signing mean Chris "Wheels" Wheeler will be explaining the benefits of the middle-in fastball in spanish next season?
This is an insult to the faithful Ssteve115
Why is signing him considered news??? I thought Amaro wanted to improve the team. It is another bad Dennys... phillyguy27
Sold out every night, three million plus and this is how were going to play it, like we are a small market team again. Open your wallets and spend like the Yankee's and Red Sox. We don't deserve this. Way to come up small. duck2late2
Was reading on CBSSports.com that Danny Knobler is saying the Phillies are one of several clubs seriously considering Magglio Ordonez. Not sure if this is a good thing considering his ho-hum numbers against left-handed pitchers. The ballpark for a contract is 2 yrs/$18 million. MrPhillie
Also, with Diaz signing with Pittsburgh, Ryan Doumit, who was scheduled to play a lot of RF for the Pirates, is now available. MrPhillie- Looks like Ordonez has something in common with Francoeur; they both want playing time. http://www.freep.com/article/20101208/SPORTS02/101208036/
