Source: Phillies getting closer to deal with Reyes

POSTED: Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 2:05 PM

With the signing of lefthander Dennys Reyes, will the Phillies’ bullpen be complete?
Yes.
No.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Phillies may have found their lefthanded reliever.

A source said the team is getting closer to reaching an agreement with lefthander Dennys Reyes. ESPN Deportes is reporting the contract would be one year with a team option for 2012.

The Phillies had a formal meeting with Oscar Suarez, the agent for Reyes, on Tuesday, but there was no offer made at the time. Talks have progressed today, though.

Reyes had a 3.55 ERA in 59 games (38 innings) for St. Louis in 2010. He had control issues, though, and walked 21 batters while striking out 25. Lefthanded batters hit .307 with a .862 OPS against.

For his career, lefties have hit .238 with a .669 OPS against.

More to come...

Reyes is a nice sign, but unsure why Phils weren't more aggressive on Frenchy as he is signing with the Royals for 1 YR/$3M. Hello Ross Gload.

    Dennys Reyes? - - - - - - - And he's an upgrade over J.C. Romero?

Seriously? They can't find a LH reliever who actually kept LH hitters BELOW .300?

Sounds like now we have a left-handed Baez.

Really? This is the best they could do? If LH hit .307 off of him - what the heck did RH hit off of him?

The Dennys boys. Swell. Where's Amaury Telemaco when you need him?

This patch a hole with tattered cloth approach must end. Phils are going to be in the same boat next year with BP woes.

Dennys Reyes doesn't pitch day games after dollar dog nights. You know why.

Reyes' nickname is the Big Sweat. Seriously. This would be so Ruben Amaro if this guy actually were to be signed.

El Hefto is another Romero only older. Walks are is calling card. This is a garbage move. Amaro, Jr need his head examined!

Now that all you armchair GMs have had your typical negative comments why don't you enlighten us with who you would get? After all, it's so easy to just pluck anyone off another team, right?

He had control issues? Why is this a good signing?

I never thought I'd say this, but I'd rather have Romero than Reyes. Takahashi, Feliciano, and a myriad of others are significantly better than Reyes or Sherrill.

Ok, so now what do we do about a platoon player for the outfield? Francoeur is out.

Same control issues as Romero. Hopefully it won't happen. Why not go after a quality left handed reliever?
