Ruiz removed from WBC game
Andy Martino
Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz was removed from Panama's 7-0 loss to Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic Saturday night after suffering a neck injury. "We have to wait until tomorrow to see what the doctor says," Panama manager Hector Lopez said in a postgame press conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
After Panama pitcher Bruce Chen suggested that Ruiz had suffered a pinch nerve, Lopez said: "It seems that he has a pinched nerve." No further information was available.
I'll be sure to pursue this tomorrow after making the drive to Kissimmee, where the Phillies play the Braves at 1:05.

Comment removed.- sorry jay johnstone, but coste deserves a spot, weather your sitting on Ruiz's lap or not. And to top it off Ruiz is a terrible hitter jamarder
The WBC is a great idea, it's just held at a bad time. It should be held in nice climates in the offseason. RodeoJones
Comment removed.- Seems like mantle knows nothing about catching. Ruiz is a chamnpionship catcher and shouldn't be taking for granted.
Who pays the medical bills for a player hurt in the WBC? Also, if Ruiz misses time from the Phillies for a WBC injury, do the Phillies have to pay his salary while he is out. PortCity
I say the phils file a lawsuit against the president of panama for forcing carlos to play in the WBC. Souf Phil
A pinched nerve, isn't the worst neck injury to have, so everyone calm down a tad, the 'Real' World Series MVP, shouldn't miss much time. At worst he just misses the rest of the WBC. The Time Is Now
Comment removed.- I thought Johnny wasn't going to play in the WBC? Good thing for Marson if Johnny can't go opening day.
