UPDATE (5:53 p.m.): Minutes after I write this, the roster is officially announced. It is as posted below. In addition, Paul Hoover, Danys Baez, David Herndon, Kyle Kendrick and Jamie Moyer will travel with the team. Brian Bocock and Vance Worley were sent to Fall Instructional League in Clearwater to stay sharp. John Mayberry Jr. reported to the Arizona Fall League.

The Phillies do not have to officially send their roster for the Division Series to the Commissioner's Office until 10 a.m. Wednesday. They chose not to announce a roster Tuesday for strategy purposes, but indications are the team will take just 10 pitchers in favor of an extra bench player.

That means Kyle Kendrick, Danys Baez and David Herndon -- three pitchers who spent the entire season with the Phillies -- will not be on the 25-man Division Series roster.

Instead, both Greg Dobbs and Domonic Brown are on. For Dobbs, it serves as vindication on some level. He was twice designated for assignment this season, cleared waivers both times, and played in the minors.

"I had to trust my talent," Dobbs said.

For Brown, it's the start of something big. He will likely be the starting right fielder in 2011, but has seen limited time in 2010. He was hampered by a strained right quadriceps for much of September. But in the final week of the season, he played some and showed he was healthy.

"It's great, man," Brown said.

The roster:

Catchers (2)
Carlos Ruiz
Brian Schneider

Infielders (8)
Ryan Howard
Chase Utley
Placido Polanco
Jimmy Rollins
Wilson Valdez
Mike Sweeney
Ross Gload
Greg Dobbs

Outfielders (5)
Raul Ibanez
Shane Victorino
Jayson Werth
Ben Francisco
Domonic Brown

Pitchers (10)
Roy Halladay
Roy Oswalt
Cole Hamels
Brad Lidge
Ryan Madson
Chad Durbin
Jose Contreras
J.C. Romero (L)
Antonio Bastardo (L)
Joe Blanton

Also Hoover is traveling with the team in case Ruiz can't play. Ruiz is the one player we can't afford to loose.

Hope we don't need Dobbs nor Brown. They are both at the Mendoza line.

Kendrick should be on the roster instead of Dobbs.

Wow i cant believe Charlie gave Dobbs a roster spot ( he sure didnt earn it). The guy has done nothing for 2 years its amazing someone still has trust in him. I know the reason he gets a spot is just in case Polanco gets hurt but he dosent deserve it. I mean come on the guy is hitting below .200 and i think he has only 4 pinch hits all year. The last few games against WAS and ATL Dobbs couldent even get the ball out of the infeild he had 16 AB's and 8 strike outs half his AB's. I hope we dont need extra innings or we are in trouble. The only guy that can go more than 1 inning is Blanton. Durbin has in the past but hasnt done it much this year. Durbin is also used in the early innings so he might be already used if we go to extras. I have trust in Charlie so lets go get them.

Talk about taking up roster space how about Jimmy Rollins. Nothing but a liability there. While I believe the rules says if he goes down they can substitute an infielder from the 40 man roster I still wouldnt like to have him starting a game and not as a leadoff man. I'll bet you all the tea in china Charlie does just that.

As a consistent poster here I am not only amazed that Dobbs is on the roster instead of a qualified arm like Worley, but that he can rub salt in the wound by referring to "his talent". As so many have questioned, what is that exactly, besides a penchant for Mendoza-line hitting, at the MLB and AAA level, and playing a horrid defensive infielder? I'm a diehard fan but this is truly absurd.

The Phillies played four very close low-scoring games against the Reds, three of which went 11 innings, right before the All-Star break. I don't know why you would carry Dobbs or Domo instead of Kendrick. But, we have to trust Cholly and Ruben.

Come on peeps. Dobbs has done it before and has a chance to make the year a success with some well timed hits. Kendrick, Baez pitched there way off the roster. Herndon was lucky the Phils kept him on the roster for the whole year. What they are saying is that the Roys and Cole will be going deep into every game. There are days off between games 1 and 2 and 2 and 3. They shouldn't need a lot of pitchers. Charlie has a plan and who are we to doubt him at this point. Just remember all you who thought he was the second coming of Danny Ozark Charlie's forgot more about baseball than you will ever know.

We better take a nice lead early, because Dusty has 4 LH in the pen and three are pretty good: rookie sensation Chapman, Arthur Rhodes and rookie Travis Wood, who almost no-hit the Phillies during the regular season. The other one is Bray. With a LH heavy lineup and 4 LH pinch hitters this could be problematic. Charlie better split the LH hitters to make Dusty use all his lefties. Another RH bat would have been ideal instead of Brown.

Um...I think Dobbs should thank the wonky leg muscles of Jimmy Rollins for his inclusion on the roster...his talent (or lack thereof) has absolutely NOTHING to do with this.
Hope Kendrick makes the next roster. The kid pitched his heart out this season - perhaps not always to the best results but I think he deserves a spot going forward.
