Rollins sent back to Philadelphia for an MRI

POSTED: Sunday, September 12, 2010, 1:37 PM

NEW YORK -- Jimmy Rollins remained out of the Phillies' lineup Sunday and was sent back to Philadelphia after the team's 3-0 victory for an MRI on his ailing right hamstring.

Asked when he thought he might be able to return from the hamstring injury that forced him to miss the entire series against the New York Mets, Rolllins said he did not know.

Asked  how he felt, four days after suffering the hamstring injury, Rollins said, "the same, unfortunately."

Wilson Valdez made his third straight start at shortstop and the Phillies also added Brian Bocock to the roster, giving them a second shortstop in Rollins' absence. Manager Charlie Manuel did not have that luxury Saturday when he wanted to hit for Valdez with a man on second and one out in the ninth inning during Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mets. Valdez grounded out for the second out of the inning.

Bocock hit .226 this season for triple-A Lehigh Valley. He also joined the Phillies briefly earlier this season, but he did not appear in any games. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Phillies designated righthanded pitcher Cesar Carrillo for assignment. Carrillo had been claimed off waivers by the Phillies Thursday.

Take a week if you need it. Don't need him till Atlanta series (maybe)and post season. Get fully healthy, then come back.

zman is an idiot. As is Manuel for not pulling Rollins when he came up lame passing 1st base. How he left Rollins in that game to run from 2nd to home is a complete joke. Rollins should have been pulled from the game immediately.

Valdez is playing great defense for us so there's no reason to rush Rollins back.

agreed with the pro valdez posts....rollins is a 240 at best hitter with a sub 300 on base %...he has become one of the more overrated players statistically in the league. resigning him for solid dollars would be a mistake after next year...

Rollins, except for the first week, has been awful this year. If his craeer hadn't been in a nose-dive for the last few years, this would be huge. Sadly it's not a big loss...

Hammies are tough injuries. Don't bring him back too early!

Valdez is actually playing better than Jimmy right now, both offensively and defensively. Take your time getting back, J-Roll.
